Eureka Flash

Eureka Flash – As we know, the allegations against Hollywood power-broker Harvey Weinstein have launched a torrent of disclosure and accusations against powerful men who have been abusing their positions to harass and abuse women. And it’s been both triggering and therapeutic to read or hear of these tales. Β But I just had a eureka flash re the actual astrology of the time – the one force I have been missing in all this: ERIS.

Why Eris?

On October 10, the day the Harvey story broke, Eris was still loosely conjunct Uranus. She was trine to Saturn in Sagittarius near Lilith AND the North Node in Leo.
So at the time I picked up on the Lilith presence. But, a Lilith Vibe, though disdainful of conventional patriarchal values, is generally outside the system. Lilith is outsider female energy. This is more like the system is dismantled and rebuilt.

So Eris – I am often remiss in thinking about and discussing the astrological Eris, in part because I think of the planet as being more Persephone in nature. This gives her Queen of the Underworld, triumphant survivor turned thrivalist type themes.
The other reason I am not mad keen on looking into Eris/Persephone is that she moves even more slowly than Neptune. We All have her in Aries! But she is unmistakably a part of the astral signature of this ongoing feminist revival.

    Couldn’t agree more πŸ™‚
Eris can’t be stopped, or at least what she starts can’t (won’t) be stopped…
I will always 1000% maintain that Eris is completely stand alone and independent of any Persephone myth. She is the DGAF grenade-dropping whistleblower. She actually gets off on fuqing up the order, because smug people, complacent hierarchies and faded ideas. She’ll drop it all right into your lap and make it your problem all over again. E.g. The film “Carrie” has Eris in an important place (along with other vital planet aspects!) and we all know how that turned out πŸ˜‰
This can be mild or depth charged but it makes her a problem for the inner circle types
Astronomically Eris is bigger than Pluto and beyond his orbit.
Bit biased tho, she’s on a chart angle for me… πŸ™‚

I think Eris is a trickster, opening the door to chaos when things become too complacent. Very much the sister of Ares.

wow yes! i always neglect eris as well, for the same reason you mentioned, that we all have her in aries. but still, other things make transits to HER. all the time. that gives me an interesting feeling–imagining eris just kinda hanging out, deep and latent inside of everyone, waiting to be provoked by transits of *everything* else and finding outlets through aspects and slooowly waking up in the collective consciousness. dark feminine energy is a difficult and mysterious thing for ALL of us–as a whole–to understand and embody, i think!

personally, she is in my third house, and trines my sun and squares saturn. my lone aries placement. i don’t even have a house cusp in aries.

    • Reply Astro Hacks November 24, 2017 at 7:56 am

Yes, other planets transit to her natal position, monthly, yearly etc. She can be on an angle, and don’t forget about progressions to Eris or Eris in the Solar Return, Lunar Return … There are a lot of ways of utilizing the information of Eris in the chart.

Aries rules my 12th. I don’t give much thought or cred to Eris. Perhaps I have understated her importance or perhaps I just don’t look in her direction but to be fair (on me for a change, not everyone else) it is the 12th and it is to some extent unknowable.

Seems to me that what she sets up is kind of a stealth trap. If’ she’s in Aries for everyone and even slower than Pluto then her agenda isn’t to cover ground in a drop in visit and shake the foundation style, rather it is to lie in wait for unsuspecting visitors or opportune moments right.

How interesting that her opposite was Harmonia (Libra?) and friend/sister of Ares.

It takes Eris 558 years to orbit the sun and at her furthest away, the dwarf planet is over three times the distance of Pluto from the sun. She’s extremely eccentric in orbit though. At her closest, Eris is inside of Pluto’s orbit and nearing Neptune. In 1950 Eris was 7 Aries. Today she is at 22 Aries where she’ll hang out (between 22 – 23) for the next few year. But like you say, transits through Aries can wake up this point in your chart. We could all have a look at our Eris degree (type in Eris and adjust for your birth data here – and check what was happening when Uranus hit that degree, for example.
Those two together make quite a team.

      • Reply Centaurus December 9, 2017 at 11:12 pm

I really haven’t explored her fully yet but with that orbit she is a bit like Chiron. She dips in between transformation and God as one example… and in order to reach one we have to go through the other, repeatedly.

I noted the dates of Uranus between Jan 2013 – March 2014. If the last 3 years hadn’t all but obliterated what went before, and I hadn’t lost 2 phones with good diary/date notes I’d be a bit clearer but I can say that very soon after the multiple retrogrades back over that point I decided to sell up and move back to my home city and I know the decision felt sudden but the process was some time coming. I was also starting to feel a great deal of dissatisfaction with the organisation I was working for and feeling kind of in a rut. There was a quiet rumble I can’t really articulate but the 10th degree is my 11th house although under the 12th rulership of Ares (and interestingly also squares Mars!). This makes a lot of sense with the dissatisfaction with people, groups, belief systems and work practices/philosophies.

I can just imagine Uranus and Eris rubbing their hands together saying leave it with us.. we’ll sort it out.

I think you’re making a good point, in that Eris energy tends to manifest at ‘tipping points’ – when enough is enough – when all this is all bullshit and a reckoning is nigh. It’s not like she just goes around, say, tipping babies out of prams for the heck of it. unless i mean say they were droid babies made by co-opting women’s free will in the patriarchal advancement of neocapitalist bromethean technological power in which case all bets are off lol.

I guess with a 500+ yr cycle (my phone auto corrected yr to Ur, timely rune reference) she’s more about the epochal timeline, systems that have existed for so long we forget or don’t even realise that they’re systems…
    Maybe I’m just riffing now..

I do know that sometimes in conversation I’d rather go in for the kill and destroy how that person sees me, in the process of casually attacking their position, rather than tolerate the bullshit they’re spouting for one more minute. Eris is in a kite in my chart with Pluto, Saturn and Neptune, with mc and ic built in

When I began getting into myths, I wouldn’t so much sympathize or resign to the fate of the women but ask ‘well what did/would they have to say?” Simply, whats a more accurate version of the story, less biased in the male narrative. Pandora, for example: What the fuq happened to her after she opened the box? Where did she go?

With Eris, I’m like, who sent her? Yes, she came because she wasn’t invited, but where did she come from? If she’s seen as the shadow and the shadow has been exiled to the outside..aka lilith land..perhaps lilith still has a hand in this subterfuge. (quickly reading up on Eris..she came from the Garden of Hesperides..who are the nymphs of sunset and golden light…talk about the point on the map between light and dark?!)
Eris’ apple thrown into the party in myth is I think another shade of Prometheus’ stealing the fire from the gods. Eris’ ‘gift’ was an uncomfortable exposing of the truth.
OR going back before the patriarchal narrative took over, it wasn’t three beautiful goddesses that Paris had to choose from, but three old hags. Each had their own gift of wisdom and whichever one he chose would be like the lens in which he would learn. Having it be three beautiful ladies distorted this feminine initiation, superficializing it.
Eris and Uranus are perhaps more similar than they are different. Pulling one over on the Gods with their trickster energy that in their own way was to gift humans and the gift included on a bigger scale the wake up call that gods are only above humans to the extent that humans lower themselves in their own eyes. Placing Gods and goddesses outside themselves and forgetting the ones within

    • Reply Centaurus November 23, 2017 at 2:17 pm

Yes – uncomfortable exposure of the truth – I think you said it better than me but that’s what I kind of meant because it generally feels like it’s come out of nowhere but might have been sitting next to you all along metaphorically.

    • Reply Astro Hacks November 24, 2017 at 8:16 am

Exactly with the Uranus look alike, and the trickster energy. Hermes, Mercury can be this way too. I’m sure they would all plot together if conjunct in the chart – or at least be difficult to tell ‘who done it.’ πŸ™‚

I don’t know much about the feminist planets. It sounds very interesting, but I think it is significant that these accusations are all against democrats, at least here in the US. It seems likely that these are politically motivated. The accusations against Al Franken in particular are very dubious. That said, I know at a personal level what it’s like to be sexually harassed, so feel camaraderie with those who have valid complaints. But the feckin’ eejit in the White House should be at the forefront of these accusations.

Maybe Eris in our charts is a trigger point that when activated compels us to react against what we feel is an injustice – where our warrior spirit is awakened – and where our true inner voice does not bend to the will of the many. This is why I am of the camp that believes Eris is more aligned to the spirit of Mars – the warrior rather than Persephone.

We saw what happened during Brexit – a total rebellion against the status quo in the UK’s relationship sector where both Uranus and Ceres conjoined Eris. It is now forcing the UK to re-examine it’s own identity through it’s relationship to the rest of the world. During the US elections Eris-Uranus-Ceres were all aligned in the US’s 4th house & Chiron (wish i had the time to extrapolate on this – but it’s fairly self evident what 4th H issues are) … Both these events have turned the status quo on its head forcing both countries to take a good long look at themselves.

Also, when this post came up, for some reason Julian Assange sprang to mind – he was after all the person who exposed the hypocrisy of major governments’ dealings and subterfuge via Wikileaks. It is interesting to note that natally, he has Eris conjunct Chiron in his 11th H – almost exact – and opposite Uranus. Most people born in 1971-72 have this placement – so it will be interesting how this will manifest when as a collective force their Eris placements are triggered. Are we seeing this now with the revelation of sex-power scandals, and revelation of foul fiscal practices & paradises?

On a personal note, i have Eris in the 6th H & I work in health/service sector. And i can tell you that there is nothing that enrages me more than Big Pharma’s attempt at commodifying health and our bodies; & injustice against workers is i guess covered here too. That is where i have always fought without caring about the consequences to myself. So maybe Eris is also about fighting for the collective and our role in it – even if it marks us as outsiders.

    • Reply skarab November 23, 2017 at 10:50 pm

So final thought is that Eris as a feminine warrior force is compelled to fight for the collective as opposed to Mars who fights for self. So Eris’s battles and consequences can seem a lot messier and seem to create more discord because the aftermath involves and forces the whole community to take stock.

      • Reply Astro Hacks November 24, 2017 at 8:32 am

This is an interesting insight, though I feel Eris works well outside the collective, for the purpose of ‘upending’ the status quo. More the collective unconscious? Jung would say she sits on the borderline of conscious and unconscious, watching for a logjam. When we are stuck, either in a habit pattern that no longer serves us, a limiting thought about ourselves or others, or a feeling of being trapped or out of touch with the creative life force, the trickster comes to blow the roof off the house. Stir things up. Light a match. We fall in love, or make a radical change or have a sudden shake up so can see from a new perspective. If it coincides with an Eris transit, it’s going to have more edge, more consequences. A tipping point with the rug pulled out from under our feet!

Thank you for articulating th emars warrior element – I also subscribe to this – Eris takes no prisoners afaict – the persona in my mind actually is Heath Ledger’s Joker , except (as you have described) taking on a system or beliefs (person who represents a system/beliefs) that is festering and in need of a taste of its own medicine

And I just read this after I’d posted above.

Yes, you pretty much summed it up!
