The Part of Fortune

What does the Part Of Fortune Mean in Astrology?

This is a quick hack, but if you spend a little time working it by hand, you’ll have a chance to engage more deeply with what this point represents.

The Part of Fortune (not to be confused with asteroid 19 Fortuna) is a point in the chart that indicates a certain kind of well being. Think abundance, richness, happiness and joy. Knowing where this point is in your natal chart can be a key to tapping into your own personal brand of fulfilment. The symbol for the Part of Fortune is the circle with an X ( uses a cross though that is traditionally the symbol for Earth).

A little history on the Part of Fortune: The Arabic parts or lots are points in the chart combining planets and angles. They aren’t really all Arabic, but were compiled in 1029 AD by an Arab, so they copped the tag. Some definitely predate Islamic astrology.

We’re going to focus on the Part of Fortune in this hack, but know there are many Arabic parts from the Part of Action to the Part of Health to the Part of Marriage, Part of Disgrace . . . (oh boy). Choose wisely which of these you focus on as energy follows thought . . .And frankly, you can send yourself insane looking at Arabic Parts. I once stayed up all night calculating the Part of Karma to the Part of In-Laws and Assassination. They are VERY old school.

Important Note: The POF is always the same distance from the Ascendant as the Moon is from the Sun. In other words, the POF is symbolic of the Sun/Moon phase. So if you have a New Moon the POF will be in the first, full moon, POF in 7th, first or third quarter, 10th or 4th.

Also note, the point 180 opposite the POF is called the Part of Spirit. You might want to play with that too.

Calculation for the Part of Fortune: This is easily done at Astrodienst  by including it in extended chart selection.

  1. click “My Astro”
  2. click the natal chart you want to view
  3. scroll down to “Extended Chart Selection”
  4. scroll down on the left hand side to “Additional Objects”
  5. choose Part of Fortune
  6. create chart

If you want to try it, calculating by hand is a way to connect to the meaning of the POF more literally.

Things to do:

Find your Part of Fortune and note what modality, element and house it is in. What planet “rules” the sign your POF is in?
How do you nurture this part of you? Activities of the house? Feeding it by element? Modality? House activity?

Here are some key words to get your started with POF by sign and by house. Nail that first before you head to aspect and transit land.

My POF is at 11 Pisces, in the 4th house. It is conjunct the IC at 4 degrees and also conjunct Chiron. I think it’s all about Home– an idea that haunts my imagination, and is vital to my happiness. The idea of having a beautiful, safe home. A place where I would feel settled in like a rooted tree. A place where I would be at peace. A place that would support my growth.

My POF opposes my MC at 5 degrees. I think that’s pretty close, so I’m wondering if that opposition means some part of me doesn’t like recognition, or feels “exposed” when in the public eye? I’m not sure. My POF also opposes my Pluto and Uranus in the 10th house at 2 degrees. I’d love to hear any insights on this.

I was interested in seeing what would happen to my 10th house if my POF became my ascendant. Well, in that case, my first house becomes my 10th– with Mercury in Sagittarius, conjunct the MC! So I would be someone whose who talks for a living in college–that is exactly what I do now.

As for the mystery chart, I’m going with Writer– someone whose books also deal with social reform (Uranus). The Moon and Neptune conjunct seem a bit “too much” when it comes to emotions–too much water. So I’m thinking someone who writes about suffering, and makes people cry BUCKETS. A writer like Harriet Beecher Stowe who wrote Uncle Tom’s Cabin, for instance– a writer who brings about social reform by showing how people are victimized by the current social setup.

    • Reply Kimmy September 19, 2015 at 3:26 pm

Oh boy. Books that deal with social reform. Writes about suffering, makes ppl cry.

      This is giving me goosebumps.

  • Reply Parisa September 19, 2015 at 1:34 am

So my Part of Fortune is in Gemini, 9th House, conjunct Sun, Mercury and Midheaven.

I definitely feel like travel, study and a healthy curiosity for life keep me vibrant and when they’re stifled (like right now) I feel it instantly in my happiness levels! Always just thought it was just my Sun though…super-potent Gemini living for the win!

Strangely if I did the ‘extra credit’ exercise, making Gemini 0 my ascendent, Cancer would rule my 2nd house of resources and $$$. Since it’s intercepted in the 10th house my natal chart, and with Mars in it, I’ve always thought of it as a bit of a ‘dud’ and a liability in my work.

Thinking about it as ruling my $$ realm changes things some…I can’t earn and support myself off pragmatism alone.

As for the example chart above, I keep thinking passionate expression would be so important to them…innovative (Uranus conjunct) point of view (3rd house) with deep conviction (scorpio) behind it! Am I close?! 🙂

    • Reply Kimmy September 19, 2015 at 2:30 am

You are close! Those are good and accurate thoughts re this person. You’ll love the reveal I’m sure, but I’d like everyone to have a go first.

Also let intuition have free rein. When you look at these symbols, you start to get images, archetypes, words, flashes. Allow those and see what comes up!

Love the Gemini POF, and great revelation with the placement of Cancer/Kataka on the Asc. It does help open things up to think of it as ruler of the 2nd.

And, please don’t think of your intercepted Mars in Cancer as a dud. It’s a treasure trove! I won’t stray off topic but we’ll pick this up when Mystic does a relevant hack.

      • Reply Parisa September 19, 2015 at 4:02 am

OK, I’ll bite! I think it’s RUSSELL BRAND!

Sexed up but deep…articulate and passionate about his PoV…funny and different but under the bravado super aware of the details and incredibly smart…BOOM!

And thank you for the intercepted pep-talk. I solemnly swear to be nicer to my Mars in Cancer and work it like the Moon-y Warrior it is 😀

        • Reply Kimmy September 19, 2015 at 4:33 am

I witness that oath to Mars! Well done.

And I love the Russell Brand guess. There are definitely some similarities with our mystery person. We’ll have to look at his chart to compare.

          • scorpiodawn September 19, 2015 at 6:01 am

ha! gorgeous Russell is sun Gemini so I know it isn’t him….can’t even determine where the first hse is, let alone the third???
and I also have mars in cancer, also thought it a bit ‘weak’ but i’ll try not to now…sorry for butting in!

          • Parisa September 19, 2015 at 6:28 pm

You’re always welcome to butt in…love the info! And no wonder I love OK’ Russell…a fellow Gem sun 🙂

Mars in Cancer is a toughy. I’ve been realizing recently that I’m much more emotionally sensitive about my work + projects than I realised. I have to be PROTECTIVE of my work…

I feel so passionate and gung-ho and then can get put off so easily.

So many inspired projects have died on the vine by being shared ill-advicedly or too soon…

My PoF is in Sag conjunct moon in 7th house. Happiness is through other people? Relationships? Connections?

the above person’s chart needs to connect deeply, in depth subjects and discussion, writing about occult, sex and death, therapy.

    • Reply Kimmy September 19, 2015 at 4:35 am

Yes and yes. Nice feel for the mystery POF.

I think Sag POF in 7 does love connections, like a “partner in crime” (not real crime, but the metaphorical crime). A friend and co-adventurer? Is that you?

  • Reply scorpiodawn September 19, 2015 at 3:40 am

hmm my pof is in virgo in the 6th house. I am all abt being in tune with my body, I have had various health problems in the past ( exzema asthma, lack of energy, depression etc ) but am working really hard to heal myself. have been eating fermented food ( even tho I find them really challenging to enjoy ) and really working on my gut, getting my gut clean.
think im right in saying virgo rules the intestines?
I have just been diagnosed with coeliac disease, a shock, but not unexpected.
so should I make this a focus for my career???

    • Reply Kimmy September 19, 2015 at 4:41 am

Scorplodawn, I’m sorry to hear the diagnoses, but at least now you know. And there are ways to work with it? To Heal?

Virgo rules the small intestines (Scorpio the large) and the 6th house is about nutrition, healing and work, the connection between psyche and soma . . . it’s also about magic. The ways and means our will is accomplished, which of course used to include spells, intentions, anything ritual.

I think focusing on the house that contains the Part of Fortune can bring fulfillment, for sure. The question is, would the study light you up?

      • Reply scorpiodawn September 19, 2015 at 5:44 am

that’s amazing-my sun is scorpio, what a correlation!
and the 6th hse is abt magic? wow : ))

        • Reply scorpiodawn September 19, 2015 at 6:02 am

weird-it doesn’t feel ‘fortuitous’ at all…it’s been quite a problematic area for me!…

          • scorpio_rising September 20, 2015 at 3:51 pm

I have Aries in my 6th House and it feels like a real chore almost worse than my natal Saturn in Taurus/7th House.
Maybe I am NOT tapping into it’s fortuitous vibes!

  • Reply astraeagold September 19, 2015 at 3:40 am

Gemini POF 9th house conjunct MC – all makes sense. Higher ed, travel, philosophy all important to me, bring me great pleasure and part of my work identity. Nothing else in the 9th.
Will have to ponder part of Spirit being in Sag in 3rd, close to IC – will be interested in others’ perspective.
The mystery chart – a historic figure (Pluto hasn’t been in Pisces for awhile) – communication so important with all that going on in the 3rd, could be a writer, but also look at Jupiter in the 10th and that intense 6th. Did (s)he incorporate the seedier side of life in his/her work? Some sort of reformer? This persons focus would be local not global (6 & 3) And with that Moon Neptune conjunction – so sensitive and creative, as long as they don’t drown in it. Virgo rising and a healthy dose of Cappy, with mars in Aries squaring Saturn would help ensure a very productive life. Sorry, no names.

    • Reply Sarah September 19, 2015 at 4:10 am

Good spotting of Pluto! Like your description ?

Ahh sorry, that emoji came up as a question mark.

    • Reply Kimmy September 19, 2015 at 4:48 am

This is so on point with mystery person. I wondered who would spot Pluto (and well, Neptune went into Saggo in the early 70s but Uranus was in Libra, Pluto in Virgo) . . . I am so enjoying reading your delineations!

I have POF alone in the 9th and seem to collect post graduate degrees. I love academia, very lukewarm on travel though . , . POF in Taurus likes to be in my own digs. I used to fall for guru types, but that was a long time ago 🙂

    • Reply Fauness September 19, 2015 at 9:00 am

Can I piggyback off your comment and say Marquis de Sade? I was thinking some of the same things about communication but I didn’t pick up on the Pluto not being in Pisces in a while. I’m not quick with that stuff.

    • Reply Kimmy September 19, 2015 at 4:50 am

I know it can be frustrating!

Just take is one step at a time. Ask what the third house is about. What kind of joy is there? That’s the starting point. That gives you a hind of what lights them up.

  • Reply scorpiodawn September 19, 2015 at 3:51 am

ooh! looking at the table below my chart….think my pof is sextile my sun?
my sun is currently 25 virgo, my pof is 20 virgo ( in 6th hse ).
ooh am I right? is this significant? am I finally grokking this???

    • Reply astraeagold September 19, 2015 at 4:15 am

If your Sun is at 25 Virgo and your POF is at 20 Virgo, then they are conjunct – to be sextile they need to be 60 degrees (2 signs) apart.
Or did you mean to say your sun is 25 Scorpio? That would make them sextile. Either way, a lovely aspect.

      • Reply Karen September 19, 2015 at 4:23 am

i think s/he means THE Sun, as it is as 25 Virgo right now….

so scorpiodawn, did the transiting Sun just pass over your PoF?

unless it’s your birthday! where is your natal Sun?

        • Reply scorpiodawn September 19, 2015 at 5:37 am

ooh…my natal sun is 21 scorpio….but it looks like its transiting….or at 25 virgo at the mo. does that make sense? that’s where my green sun is on the outside of my chart…

          • scorpiodawn September 19, 2015 at 5:39 am

oh right, think I did mean THE sun. oh no….now I’m really confused….thought the green planets were my personal transits??? thank god we’re covering transits soon…

          • Karen September 19, 2015 at 5:43 am

the green planets are where they are transiting at a certain time – not just for you but for everyone!

so today it’s at 25 Virgo, and Jupiter has just opposed Neptune, and that is a general aspect and why astrologers are writing about the Neptune/Jupiter oppositions atm (floods/refugees, etc)

If your PoF is 20 Virgo and your Sun 21 Scorpio, then they are in a sextile aspect natally

          • Karen September 19, 2015 at 5:45 am

and, in fact, your natal chart is just a snapshot of where the transiting planets were at the time you were born

          • scorpiodawn September 19, 2015 at 6:05 am

okayyy…so how do I find my personal transits???

          • Karen September 19, 2015 at 6:29 am

what is personal to you is where they are travelling in relation to your natal chart – so for e.g. the Sun just passed over your PoF at 20 Virgo, it is on my Pluto at 26 Virgo now, and if someone is having a birthday today then their natal Sun is at 25 Virgo and the transiting Sun is returning to the spot in the sky where it was when they were born. etc. Does that make sense? it would help to see your chart – maybe you should have a reading done?

          • scorpiodawn September 19, 2015 at 11:16 am

would LOVE to have a reading done!

          • Flashfire September 20, 2015 at 5:36 pm

My POF is the same as yours at 20 degrees Virgo…. the solar eclipse just past was on that degree. I’m not sure what it means exactly, but I’ve got to think that is significant for both of us, yeah? Like major new beginnings, fresh start.

My PoF from is 11 Leo, but from astro software from readings I’ve had done, and I *believe* on the Time Passages app, it is 13 Sag. It’s too early for me to even attempt the above calculations by hand, but I wonder if it’s the two different formulas above causing the discrepancy? I was born at night.

I have tons of stuff in Sag, PoF is my only thing in Leo, so I hope that is it’s real placement. 😛 I love throwing fun get togethers with friends and fam, lol. Also I love that it activates 11 Aqua, as I love the Aqua vibe, but only have one placement there, Vesta I believe…

About that chart, I have a couple guesses but they are somewhat dirty but I’ll just be no filter this morning and say it… something that brings them much happiness: Sex, and talking during it. Also thinking about sex a LOT. 🙂

It could be a day/night POF thing. If you tell me the degree of the Ascendant, sun and moon, I’ll spot it for you.

Love the dirty sex talk thought. I will have to investigate that and see if it was ever mentioned. Excellent 🙂

My Part of Fortune is in the 7th house, Scorpio, trine Mercury in Pisces.
I will see this my fortune coming from digging down into relationships. I have an Aqua sun and it’s very easy for me to have lots of superficial relationships (hello social media), but it’s the more intense partnerships that have led to massive and good changes in my fortune. Not sure how Merc in Pisces fits in.

Regarding the chart above: I think they might be a passionate speaker with transformative and radical ideas. And I think they would be likely to share these ideas with the masses. I keep looking for other clues (what shape is that chart??) but I’m not coming up with much. Am vacillating between scientist or politician. Or Oprah.

    • Reply Kimmy September 19, 2015 at 5:03 am

Very good with the “radical ideas” and sharing with the masses.

I can see how POF in Scorp in 7th would open doors for deeper relationships that Aquarius, (I have an Aqua Moon) might want to steer clear of. What house is Mercury? 11th?

      • Reply Kellie September 19, 2015 at 6:29 pm

Yes, Mercury is in the 11th. I’ve struggled with reconciling Mercury in the 11th, which makes sense to me, with the Pisces placement. Though I did just start sharing my favourite poetry online and I’m thinking of sharing my own fiction soon. Ha, maybe I should focus on romance writing!

My Part of Fortune is in my 3rd house in Pisces. This makes so much sense to me. I teach English and really get a ton of enjoyment from discussing ideas and communicating on various topics. I also love writing (but don’t do it as often as I would like because I’m so busy). I also participate in various groups that discuss spiritual and mystical topics….if I could take about tarot, astrology, moon manifestation, etc. all day….I love be a very happy girl!

I’m thinking, writing stories that mesmerize. 🙂

  • Reply Sue September 19, 2015 at 5:00 am

Perhaps they are very driven to express alternative views or deeper ideas.. or are actually quite controversial. Mars Aries intensity and Saturn Cap structure. Both of those really stand out to me as they’re a bit like a double whammy. Jupiter in Gem is pretty expansive and out there with ideas (I have this) and Aqua sun would also add to that. Virgo would take care of the detail even if that be in unusual or perhaps non conventional ways. A writer? A comedian?

My PoF is in Cancer in the 2nd house. I think this kind of makes sense to me. I tried the night time calculation as I’m very early degrees Sun so close to DC but it doesn’t feel like a fit a 0 Aries. When I changed the house structure to follow some of the houses felt like they could fit ok in a way but I’d really need to sit with that for a while as I didn’t immediately get an ah-ha.

    • Reply Kimmy September 19, 2015 at 5:12 am

Very discerning with the mystery chart. Deeper ideas, controversial, (Uranus conjunct POF) and the attention to details, even dark ones (especially?). You’re going to love who this is.

POF in the 2nd in Cancer feels like living deeply and truly your core values . . . ie, doing what you love. Not working a “day job” but a dream job. Developing and nurturing your talents (they are your resources).

One way to look at the alternate zodiac is to see what houses the sun and moon fall in, just to start. I got a quick ahha when I did that.

      • Reply Sue September 19, 2015 at 5:17 am

Ah that’s a great idea Kimmy.

Well my part of fortune is in the ist house in Taurus, nothing else in cooee. I suspect that this might mean a love of independance, financial security?

I do really recharge my batteries by working alone, preferably in absolute silence in an un-interruptable environment. I often get up in the night in order to have the house to myself.

I find I lose myself easily when around others, caving to their needs, so it’s great to get some time to recharge.

About the sample chart all I can see is writing passion, sex and death. Someone mentioned historical figure which made me wonder if it could be the Marquis de Sade?

    • Reply Kimmy September 19, 2015 at 5:18 am

Isn’t the middle of the night the best time to work? When everyone else is sleeping? I relate to that. That position means you were born on the new moon too, which has an Aries feel. The POF is like this mouthpiece or spokesperson for your sun/moon/Ascendant, so that makes sense.

My POF is in Taurus too. There is something tangible about the area of life – (for me in the 9th, it’s the degree or the published word or the sensual aspect of a new adventure). In the first, you nailed that feeling of the physical sense of your own space. Quiet. House to yourself.

      Great example.

  • Reply ICPluto September 19, 2015 at 5:27 am

My POF is conjunct EXACT my SN (opposite NN) in my 3rd house Mutable Earth Virgo. Trine Venus, Mercury, Saturn in Toro 11th house, sextile Moon in Kataka 1st house. I had a difficult time interpreting what the exact conjunction to my SN could mean, since there is a lot of not so good interpretations about this position, “being stuck in the past” was one of them. Taking a more optimistic approach, since Jupiter is about to conjunct my POF this October 1st 🙂 I would like to think I am tapping into my natural talents and skills (SN) to walk the path of my NN through writing (3rd house), trying to channel those trines and sextile to help me along the way.

Regarding the sample chart, certainly a historical figure (Pluto in Pisces, as noted by others), strongly influenced by unconventional ideas (POF conjunct Uranus, Sun in Aquarius), whose ideas brought transformation to a generation, since Pluto is the ruler of their POF, uncomfortable and deep truths. Being ahead of their time (Uranus), certainly makes this person still very much relevant to many generations to follow. I would say a writer, because of 3rd house POF.

    • Reply ICPluto September 19, 2015 at 5:30 am

One last note about the chart, the Gemini Jupiter in the 10th house also supports the idea of writing.

      • Reply Kimmy September 19, 2015 at 3:22 pm

I like your optimistic approach to POF on SN. It doesn’t have to be stuck. Natural abilities resonates! And remember, if it’s on your SN, it’s also in aspect to your NN. Finding the balance between where you have been and where you are headed.

“ideas brought transformation to a generation” oh yes. And the deep and uncomfortable truths.

And incredibly relevant the generations that follow . . . spot on.

        • Reply ICPluto September 19, 2015 at 5:02 pm

Yes, Kimmy, I stay away from that “benefic”/”malefic” interpretation. it reminds me of one of Mystic’s posts-“When good transits feel bad” 🙂 I took it as a clue to be more careful about creating expectations based on the “traditional” nomenclature.

My PoF is in my 8th house in Taurus. I am really attracted to the occult and even slightly morbid things, love doing research, learning new things… Taurus wise – it is true that I feel secure and happier when financially stable, I love good food and being outside and barefoot, to take in the smell and the sounds of nature… I don’t know if it’s related to Taurus in any way but feeling in tune with mother nature and feeling grounded makes me very happy.

Finally something in Sagg at 29° 6H intercepted conjunct to m Saturn in Capricorn -3°.
Sagg- in higher learning. Def not in structured learning (l hate making kids do exams n tests). Maybe learning of interesting stuff like the Astro.
    6H- dunno???
Conjunct Saturn- Serious? Me? Serious? I was talking to John McEnroe the other day and he said, “You can’t be serious!”.

    • Reply Keith September 19, 2015 at 3:28 pm

I just put in “days” formula or some such. It shifts me into 18° Cap 7H. No major aspects. 7H resonates big time for me. Unaspected is suppose to be a major influence, non?

This feels more right anyway being a 7H Moon which is my chart ruler.

    • Reply Keith September 19, 2015 at 7:38 pm

Really none of this makes sense. This PoF has stumped me before.
Little resonance. Actually it is the only thing in the Astro l feel ambivalent about. For a Kat to feel ambivalent is an odd feeling. If in fact it is a feeling.

But can a Kat be a feline?

      • Reply Kimmy September 19, 2015 at 8:39 pm

Okay, forget about aspects for a moment and just get to the essence of Fortuna.

Think of the house(s) were you find this point. Is there anything about this area of life that makes you smile?

        Imagine more of that.

Then engage with the sign. Try it on. What is there about this modality and element that you like? Imagine and identity shift, for a moment. What do you find.

We’re open to an image or idea or flavor that brings spontaneous joy.

        • Reply Keith September 20, 2015 at 6:11 am

I think 6 & 7 Houses resonate more than Sagg or Cap; funny l know.
Im going with 7H. I tried all the ‘clothes’ on and 7H fits best. And l’d go with Cap as l know that energy. Whereas Sagg is so foreign to me.

Soz to bore you all but having a partner makes me feel rich. I live every romantic song Supertramp (R Hodgson- Pisces) have ever wrote. So 7H is the strongest energy. It also unaspected.

I’ve only ever been in love or unrequited; l know no other state of being. And l’ve felt that way since l was six.

And on that, the Kat Weekly scopes were/are so on the money, its not funny.

Okay, my Sun and ascendant are conjunct to the very minute. 20.46 Cancer.
POF is at 28.49 Libra in the 4th house. Does this mean my Point Of Spirit is conjunct my moon? My moon is at 12 Aries in the 10th house.

POF is also conjunct Mars (18 Libra), Pluto (24 Libra) and Jupiter (0 Scorpio, still in the 4th house). Saturn just misses the party at 16 Libra. LOADED 4th House.

Does this mean I’m a hermit crab? I kind of am but I’m not a misanthrope or anti-social . . . In fact, I live in Costa Rica (for love) and the hardest transition has been the isolation.

    • Reply Sagitta September 19, 2015 at 8:57 am

POF in the 4th house, but in Libra– well, Libra is a sociable sign, so it makes sense that you would find isolation difficult.

I have my POF in the 4th house too, but in Pisces. At one time, I had the “brilliant” (astro-cookbook-style) idea that I needed to make my home on the water! I needed to live full-time at sea, or at least in a houseboat. Then the next minute, I remembered the time I went on a cruise– boring– and another time I slept on a water bed at a friend’s house– not fun. Nope–my home needs to be on terra firma.

      • Reply Darla September 19, 2015 at 12:55 pm

Haha good reasoning there. Terra firma for me too, please! I feel claustrophobic on or in water

  • Reply Oneirix September 19, 2015 at 8:50 am

I’m a nighttime birth, and my nighttime POF is in 7H Virgo. This resonates quite a bit. I think I feel the most abundant when I am in stable(ish) meaningful relationships, whether it’s a significant friendship or a romance. They really do light up my life, which I am kind of ashamed to admit since I would rather be as independent as possible (Aries Sun/Aqua ASC+Mars/Cappy chart tone).

Interestingly, the only major aspects to my POF is a square to my MC (the usual “career or love” issue?) and an opposition to my 1H Venus! I’m thinking the opposition is indicative of my internal struggle with needing to be connected to other people. 1H Venus wants irresponsible love, the kind where she’s totally adored but not beholden to anyone. But my POF is reminding me that the only way to get any real joy out of relationships is reciprocity, give-and-take, and responsibility to the other. They’re both mutable (Venus in Pisces) so the energy is similar, but maybe my Virgo POF is pointing to a need for a little more structure and stability in my attractions than watery Pisces?

Hello………6th house Pisces. Nothing else in Pisces. The energy of it makes a lot of sense to me. Curious what the 6th house really is about? Looking for an uplifting definition of this house. Being a nice, do no harm person or ceo that feeds the world? It bothers me that service sounds like sacrifice and feels bit demeaning almost like a punishment. It’s probably a cultural thing but still. Or it is a lip service concept like in politics.

    • Reply astraeagold September 19, 2015 at 2:38 pm

no no no no Athena – service is not a punishment. And it doesn’t mean that you have to be a wallflower. POF in 6th – more that there is joy in the everyday, that there is magic in daily rituals. The local of the global/local dichotomy. Think good fortune via being authentic with your daily life being in line with your ideals. Being conscious of your daily habits.
12 house Virgo Sun , Jupiter & NN in Pisces in the 6th here. In some funny way, for me service is freedom.

4th house Pisces at 14 deg, and I pulled it up with aspects and found another square. My POF is square my moon neptune conjunction!

Home life as mystical, spiritual. I definitely feel that. I find tending to home life to be very nourishing. My little woodsy home is like a retreat. It would explain why despite all my Sag and ninth house action, I feel best at home. I don’t live far from where I grew up, but the location I found feels very different. It’s like the best of both worlds – close but far away. Not sure about the square to my moon neptune. Maybe it’s those days I wish I would have moved to the mountains? The times that I travel and find myself in this great energy space but I don’t want to stay for extensive periods? The ability to bring a mindset of other places back home, like I am playing with space and time? I completely clear my mind when I am driving on back roads (and out in nature in general) and I can change my headspace to feel that I am experiencing a new place. Does that make sense?

    • Reply seawitchmermaid September 19, 2015 at 9:25 am

That all sounds so lovely. And yes, makes sense to me. I live in a rural area and drives on back roads feel magical.

      • Reply Fauness September 19, 2015 at 9:31 am

I call it treeage. Where I separate the thoughts that need to go from the thoughts that need to stay and flourish.

Boom – air (driving), earth (trees & visual landscape), and water (feelings and emotions).

    • Reply Fauness September 19, 2015 at 9:29 am

Oh and another thought, I have a LOT of cancer energy in my family. Father is sun & moon (could be more, I don’t know his birth time), brother was Cancer, grandmother, etc. I think familial patterns come out in astro charts (sorry if I state the obvious). So the water in my chart is my scorp rising – from the father’s side. The Uranus rising I believe comes from the Aquarius-heavy mother’s side. So pisces POF in the home sector ties in with that I think.

Or am I going off on too much of an astro tangent? haha

      • Reply seawitchmermaid September 19, 2015 at 10:49 am

Never too much of an astro tangent, lol. I love family astro stuff. Your chart definitely sounds like a symbiosis of the two sides! How cool to have Uranus in Scorpio rising. In my family of origin, we all have Earth moons. My Mom and I have the same rising, Venus, Mars, Moon, but she has no personal planets in water. My Dad however has many things in Cancer rising, and Pisces midheaven. (I’m a Pisces).

One theory I’ve heard is that the lessons our parents/ancestors did not master show up in our charts. For instance my partner has Moon/Mars in opposition (don’t get me going on that aspect :P), and our oldest boy has it as well, same signs, same degree and the other damn well near same degree, but the signs are switched.

I also think it’s sort of astro DNA as well that gets passed along, always thought it was funny that the four starting letters of the first four signs which lay the groundwork (A T G C for Aries, Toro, Gemini, and Cancer), correspond with the actual bases of DNA, ATGC (Adenine, Guanine, Cytosine, and Thymine).

Ahh sorry for the book I’ve written in reply! lol

        • Reply Fauness September 19, 2015 at 7:04 pm

That’s very interesting about the acronyms. And your familial astro aspects clearly go together as well.

What comes to mind regarding the chart above is ‘a love for debate’. For communication. Goal oriented and sharp, looking at uranus near POF in scorpio. Some rebellion….

My POF is in 6th house Cap. Square moon and sun.

Reading some things online bring me to this:

Happiness through hard work, determination and achievements of goals. I can relate to that. But is is just recently I am giving energy to this. And it gives me a great deal op pleasure. To think that i always avoided this because i was afraid of everything, but mostly dissapointment.
Self-improvement and self-discipline is high in 6th house. I am very well in times of crisis. I am thinking i am a very disciplined person, but just recently learning to put it to work for me, for the better. I have self-destructive tendencies in putting myself last all the time.
I love psychology and self-oriented psychology and spirituatity.

Gonna dig a little deeper on this one.

My 5th house starts at 15 degrees Pisces. My POF is 14’57. Does that make a difference in interpretation?

    • Reply Kimmy September 19, 2015 at 3:31 pm

It does make a difference. I commented in am early hack (houses?) that the cusps are like open doorways and the planets like ppl at a party. They can be in one room (house) but looking through the doorway into another. The interest can be divided.

And given that birth times can be off by minuets, and different house systems can divide the house into different degrees, I would go with your POF interested in both houses. Maybe 60% 4th and 40% 5th.

Tune in and see what that feels like.

“Moving towards” or “looking into” another house makes heaps of sense. It’s like I want to push out of my cozy home spot and be creative. Not going to write an epic novel here, but it completely makes sense in the narrative of my life.

Fun game — I think what brings this person success, happiness, and abundance is communication with other people about deep subjects, and weird subjects (Uranus) – conspiracy theories and bizarre secrets. That PoF/Uranus conjunction sextiles the sun in Aqua, right? And trines Venus-Pluto in 6th house Pisces. Friendship, messages, communication; maybe communication with spirit worlds, even…I’m interested to see who this is.

My PoF is at 7 deg. Leo in the 2nd house. The ruler of my 2nd house is my 5th house Sun in Libra, so I create literal abundance and success when I am self-actualizing through my creativity. I worked on this in an online LOA/Abundance course with Kim, actually, and still have trouble trusting that my creativity could bring me abundance, but I continue to create and believe that my work has worth.

My PoF opposes Jupiter (8th house, Aqua) exactly, which means that it also opposes the part of spirit. But is this always the case? Does anyone know how having Jupiter oppose the PoF might affect me?

    • Reply inanna September 19, 2015 at 11:47 am

I took another look at my chart, and realized that my PoF is also square Mercury and Pluto in Scorp. (H5) and the NN in Taurus (H11). So that makes another cross in my chart, a fixed one between Leo PoF, Mercury/Pluto, Jupiter, and NN.

Mutant super powers or mutant spider web chart?

    • Reply Kimmy September 19, 2015 at 3:37 pm

Great delineation of POF in Leo in the 2nd. I think tapping your true core values, really honoring them, might open the floodgates to abundance as well.

Your heart has to be in it. 🙂

Jupiter on the POS feels like “spiritual expansion” could be a powerful gateway. That might mean a lot of different things, but a daily meditation practice comes to mind. Yoga? Tantra?

      • Reply inanna September 20, 2015 at 11:24 am

Yes, absolutely. I’m trying to figure out which projects my heart is in right now actually.

As far as spiritual expansion, thank you; probably a daily meditation practice would help me to open that gateway to abundance. I tend toward more occult things, though, with Jupiter in Aqua — automatic writing, astral travel, tarot readings, witchy ceremonies with candles, communication with spirit guides 🙂

It’s kind of ridiculous how much I am presently *doing* my Part of Fortune! Mutable, Fire, 3H of Communication, Ruled by Jupiter, Conjunct Neptune, Square Moon in Virgo. I’m currently a project manager, I work from home and am self-employed. I am all about communication, organization, processes, and procedures. I have been working closely with my job to develop new ways of doing all of these things, and we’ve come such a long way too. While I don’t particularly *love* my current job – I do quite love the roles I have, with regards to management and organization, structure, planning.

With regards to the conjunction, I feel I am doing my Neptune very positively – I feed this by my love for the metaphysical, space exploration, spiritual connection and even dabble in art on a personal level. When I don’t get enough of these things in my life, problems surely arise.

Also, I wonder if my unexplainable insanely detailed dream history is to do with this line up. I always dream, every night, and they stay with me and rotate in my mind until the next dream comes along to ponder and dwell on…

Good question. Yes and no. Internally they have all the freedom – but put to practice there are always limitations. The body will always be somewhat of a prison to the mind, hopelessly trying to execute what it can. Not everything can be done.

  • Reply Nia September 19, 2015 at 12:02 pm

Nighttime POF resonates more with me than the daytime calculation. Leo 14º in the 2nd House ($$!). Fixed Fire ruled by the Sun. It’s square Mercury and Venus in Scorpio, and trine Saturn in Sag. My only other Leo is Lilith which as MM put it, makes me “fierce at hustling up cash when I need it.” haha

I’ve always been comfortable with money and had a high consciousness about it, even when I don’t have very much. I feel like the Leo energy instills a sense of nobility, power, and self-worth that transcends how much wealth I actually have, but only grows the more there is of it. I love to be generous with money, giving gifts, investing in others, putting finances in the best places, with the resolute belief that whatever wealth goes out will come back to me again. I also believe that wealth means so many things….and that I can spend “money” and get all manner of things in return that are not currency but just as valuable if not more.

I suppose Leo things do make me happy…hair (haha), style, confidence, pride, sense of domain… What else are Leonine pleasures/activities?

I don’t have a lot of close friends, but it seems like my closest friends (females) are all Leo Suns! Is there any correlation here, that I feel comfortable and happy around Leo types?

~ My first instinct about the example chart is some kind of driven leader of thought (spiritual or intellectual; I also get this from the Aqua Sun)—POF conjunct Uranus in Scorpio makes me think of higher mind pursuits, possibly occult sciences, 3rd House dissemination of knowledge…Neptune and Moon, imagination and emotions, in Sagittarius feel like an epic ebb and tide of inspiration and meaning filtered through those higher mind pathways. I imagine this person getting amped/nurtured by deep dialogue. Their thoughts may be their own, avant garde, without much parallel. Capricorn Mercury and Saturn puts structure and perseverance into the drive for understanding, innovation, and sharing of knowledge. — But I get the feeling this interpretation is based a lot off my own relationship with those planets and signs. 🙂

    • Reply Kimmy September 19, 2015 at 3:40 pm

Your insights are great and I think any astrology brings their own relationship with the planets to the reading.

“I imagine this person getting amped/nurtured by deep dialogue.” Oh yes!

    • Reply inanna September 20, 2015 at 11:32 am

Thank you, Nia! Our charts are so similar, and I always learn quite a bit about my own chart through your detailed descriptions. I also have PoF in 2nd house Leo. Everything you said about your relationship with abundance is what I’m trying to work toward.

I do think it’s interesting that you’re attracted toward Leo friends. We both have 5th house Libra suns, too, right? So you are also a little bit Leonine, and Libra is a natural companion to Leo. I think this means that you have a healthy relationship with your sun and PoF that allows you to connect with people who reflect your sense of self-worth and playfulness.

I actually have the opposite issue – I often have complicated feelings about Leo people, especially at work. I know that this means I need to amp my own sense of self worth and generosity so that I don’t experience feelings of jealousy when the other lions put themselves first. These people are my teachers, for sure. 🙂

      • Reply Nia September 20, 2015 at 2:40 pm

Thanks Inanna, I get a lot of inspiration and new insights from your chart/comments as well! 🙂

I realize I’m doing my POF mostly by House and Sign. I love that you’ve connected it with the action of your Libra Sun (POF ruler) in the Creative Sector and I see this is what I need to do as I pursue a writing career full bore. Could be very powerful! I’m trying to embrace the worth of my writing, and appreciate my skills even as they grow, so that I already feel “successful” as I launch into publishing. It’s such a long term venture (finding a readership takes time), I think a strong self-worth is important to get a writer through the slow spots. AND to not get hung on how much money my books start making or not right away because it’s more of a snowball effect. I want to love the process (5H Libra) of getting the snowballs rolling, so that I enjoy it so much more when they are big (POF)!

Libra does have a lot in common with Leo ~ and since I’m shy I think it works well that my friends are more “out there” and focus the attention on themselves so it doesn’t fall on me. They encourage me to do fun things and enjoy my company along for the ride. They help make decisions and move things along, so I feel less pressure. My Leo friends don’t seem to have expectations of me and aren’t judging me…and I feel that’s a big key to getting me out of my Kataka shell! I’m learning from them that it’s beautiful to feel happy with just the way you are—complete with quirks—and not compare yourself with others or take their criticisms too seriously.

      • Reply [email protected] September 19, 2015 at 7:15 pm

That’s exactly what I’m pondering. I’m a loner. I don’t really relate to the 11th house at all (though I have a ton of planets in the sixth). I’ve always felt isolated and have longed to find my tribe and my community but I never fit in.

        • Reply Kimmy September 19, 2015 at 7:29 pm

With Pisces, I have a feeling these “others” aren’t always people in the strictest sense. Soulmate beings aren’t always human beings.

          • Sagitta September 20, 2015 at 9:17 pm

I have the POF in Pisces in the 4th house. Does this mean that, with Pisces. “home” isn’t necessarily an “earthly” home in the same way that “soulmate beings aren’t always human beings”?

          • Kimmy September 21, 2015 at 3:21 pm

That’s possible yes. It reminds me of the 10 of Cups, the spiritual home. But also I think home can be a sanctuary,

I would also not hesitate to tap into your ancestors for help whenever you need it. They are waiting to support and encourage you.

My POF is at 25.32 in my third house in Scorpio, one degree off my IC, and it shares this house with my Jupiter. (Incidentally, my Mars is just a degree from my MC, and I’m Aries.) So my POF seems to point to deep communication which makes sense as I’m a journalist and writer and my absolute vital tool for organising my thoughts is a daily diary which must always be beautiful and sturdy to withstand the passages of time and not buckle under the weight of intense the thoughts and feelings expressed within. Also, the vast bulk of my Astro is in fixed houses and this is no exception, but I am glad to see it ushers in some much needed water. There are few specks there now (it joins Jupiter and north node), in an otherwise overwhelmingly fire and earth landscape (just one air sign, Uranus in Libra). Great to see POF here (still breathing after recent full-throttle Saturn action). I’m not so keen to looking to the point of disgrace, in a kind of horror movie, hands over the eyes but peeking through the fingers kind of way. Maybe that one needs a makeover/rebranding to assist more constructive interps for vulnerable lay-type peeps. I’d love to hear how you approach that.

    • Reply arise September 19, 2015 at 3:40 pm

Think my point of disgrace is typos. Tapping away on phone.

      • Reply Kimmy September 19, 2015 at 3:48 pm

🙂 The antidote to the point of “disgrace” is saying, “I love that about me!”

        Getting okay with everything.

And yes, some of the old (a lot of the old) terminology could use re-branding. The fixed star interpretations are in this category too. So heavy!

I also think our perspective of what is “good” and what is “bad” would welcome a shift. Lifting value judgements allows us to experience things in a whole new way.

I love how your POF manifests in that diary. So inspiring!

Thank you for the great hack, Ive been doing astro for a while and this was something I hadn’t really looked into much and I love ! – the video tut was great too ! it made something that seems complex – easy !

So I have discovered – being a night time birth – my POF is 11 degrees Pisces 7th house. it is sextile my venus in cap. this is interesting as I find my 7th house my self perceived achillies heel (POF and Vertex are the only planets in there) . Neptune coming up to conjoin my POF – intuitively I feel like this neptune conjunction of my POF is going to be big … and will help develop my 12h leo north node as well which I am working towards out of share pleasure I have with Astrology and esoteric etc … it might even bring me the right lover too lol ! Any way thanks ! interesting stuff ! I am now looking forward to a transit that I didn’t even know was happening … xx

    Interesting hack! Thanks Kimmy 🙂
The chart above is a very interesting person. Possibly Psychic, definitely esoteric (Pluto in Pisces) end of the 1700’s to early 1800’s
PoF in the 3rd suggests his/her joy was found in writing or teaching – conveying the ideas to people, in Scorpio suggests getting to the core of life experience.
Fifth house sun – Either very confident and assured of themself, or struggling to find trust in the world. Possibly had a tonne of children, or loved teaching children. Neptune & Uranus in the 3rd – attracted to deep spiritual experiences, difficulties with traditional learning. Uranus in Scorp – Scientific mind. Whoever this is is definitely a philosopher or scientist.
Jupiter in the 10th – outstanding career, high ethics, teacher, wise.

As far as who this is – I’m really stumped.

Anyhow – my PoF has turned up in the 5th (late tarus) using day formula or the 9th (0degree Libra) without ticking that box. Both feel relevant, but less to me in terms of finding my joy through knowing I belong (Libra interp) although I do like to know my ideas/self has been well received (don’t we all).

In both options it is trine the ASC.
Opposition to Saturn if I take the 9th house version, trine the moon.

Trine Saturn if I take the 5th house option, conjunct uranus, Quintile Venus.

I was born at 5.35am – so it’s like the cusp between day/night. It’s both and neither at the same time.
I do like this idea of taking these 3 very strong elements (i mean, it’s how I get my name on here after all) and then doing maths with them to find some kind of possibility of meaning to the life. Gosh I love the tangibly intangible nature of occult sciences 🙂 It’s so Quantum 😉

          try this link

You mentioned that you’re a first house sun like me – so an early morning birth too?

Ive been driving along way (1200kms) with the most beautiful Taurus woman. (SunVenus Conjunct, Mars/Uran/Pluto Conjunct). I actually havnt been able to think straight. I usually can do maths.

But l went on 3 sites, inc AstroD, and l got Sagg, Cap n Scorp??? So l will watch vid and do it manually.

Yep. 6:10am. Sun n Uran 1H. Main way it plays out is l just gotta be me and l don’t care what you think and have the fun of a madman doing it. Kids love it. I have done yr 7-10 lessons, in woodwork, as if done by Milo Kerrigan; amongst other insanities.

Kimmy, how does Mars relate to this since its the ruling planet of Scorpio (where the POF is). Do we look at the house that Mars sits in as a strong force as well?

    • Reply Nia September 19, 2015 at 8:04 pm

I’m interested in this as well. I get a different spin on my POF if I think of it in relation to or influenced by its ruling planet in my chart…

      • Reply Kimmy September 19, 2015 at 8:35 pm

The ruling planet is an elaboration of the sign the pof is in. So POF in Scorp, we look at Mars and Pluto. Mars in Aries is a powerhouse. Pluto in Pisces, a big like Pluto in the 12th, so behind the scenes, so swayed or affected by the collective. But Mars won’t sit on it. Mars will use it as a weapon, which is, metaphorically, what this person did.

But start with the simple fact that doing the activities of the house of the POF, and wearing the costume of the sign can make you feel good.

        Start there. Expand out.

  • Reply Austinite September 19, 2015 at 8:46 pm

I’m having a little trouble with the calculation…So I have a night POF (ASC 14.28 degrees Pisces; Sun 23.48 degrees Taurus; Moon 4.17 degrees Taurus
    344.28+53.48-34.17= 363.59

is that like 3.59 degrees of Aries?

    • Reply Kimmy September 19, 2015 at 9:15 pm

Bingo. You had no trouble at all.

And note the distance between the POF and the Asc is the same as the sun/moon angle.

  • Reply Emma September 19, 2015 at 9:03 pm

First up, the mystery person. Coming in a bit late here but I had similar thoughts to others – their PoF would light up with intense conversations or writing, especially on subjects that were eccentric, esoteric, erotic. Mars in Aries would be driven, and maybe a lone adventurer into areas shunned by others. Jupiter Rx as the handle of a tight bucket pattern would delve deeply into truth/belief/wisdom and connect to the world through that. No idea who it is, but I was thinking along the lines of someone like Aleister Crowley, Friedrich Nietzsche or maybe a Romantic poet…

Now my PoF was interesting. I’m a nighttime birth so I looked at both options. The standard option is 23 Virgo in the 1st and the nighttime option puts it at 25 Leo in the 12th. I didn’t really resonate with either of those – I have Virgo rising and I do tend to make lists, check for typos, make plans A, B, C etc, but I wouldn’t say that any of that brings me joy. A sense of security perhaps, but not joy.

Because I have no planets in the 12th and nothing in Leo except for my SN I don’t have a sense of familiarity with those energies. So I thought, well what has brought you joy lately? And the first thing that came to mind was doing this course! I’m loving learning about astrology, but what I really love is the sense of secrets being revealed and remembering that there is so much more to reality than what I can hold (even though the sensual world is wonderful it’s not that whole kahuna…) My spiritual life is major a source of deep richness and abundance! And if you’re a Buddhist (which I am) the term ‘self-undoing’ isn’t a bad thing – that’s actually the gateway to enlightenment! The other thing that came up was how happy I feel when I allow myself to be child-like and just play. Unfortunately it’s a pretty rare occurrence, but there is something very Leo-like in that image for me…so…I think that I’ll go with the nighttime calculation, but undertake further research into joy, richness and abundance just to make sure 🙂

    • Reply Kimmy September 19, 2015 at 9:11 pm

Check on the mystery person. It’s not on your list, but good list!

Your rendition of POF in Leo in the 12th is just beautiful.

      Thank you.

  • Reply ellen September 19, 2015 at 9:16 pm

I’ve been awol so I’ve skipped some.

I’ve the pof at 9 Virgo in my twelfth and having Jupiter come up on it I’m a bit excited.

I realize asteroids are ott but calliope and erato are on the pof. the tricky thing for me is it being in the 12th house. I do love writing and singing but am not interested in fame or even publicity. Leo rules my 12th but it’s mostly empty

I can say that happiness in what I do is a given, but it’s not a comfortable place to be looking for other kinds of fortune.

It’s in a sweet grand earth trine with my north node in cap and hekate in taurus so in terms of hypothetical points I’ve got mad magic on my side. It makes a sextile to Pallas in scorpio which is in a grand water trine with south node in cancer and mercury in pisces.

all in all its a whip smart combo. I’m using Pluto and Neptune to rock it into a grand sextile of brain. Wooot

  • Reply Alice B September 19, 2015 at 10:47 pm

I checked out the POF day and night and discovered that although the night formula resonates better with me, I’m married to someone who has their POF less than a degree from mine if mine were worked out using day formula – is that a weird coincidence?

re the mystery person I figure if it’s a woman probably a femme fatale or someone involved in concealing or revealing information to do with taboo subjects via publishing? Anais Nin? or if a man, Edgar allan poe?

    • Reply Alice B September 19, 2015 at 10:56 pm

my pof is in taurus and in the 11th, which is not a house I relate to so well. My sun is libra and my POF opposes venus in libra, I wonder if that’s where the not relating comes from?

      • Reply Kimmy September 19, 2015 at 11:47 pm

Just seeing your contributions here in the Hacks is very 11th house. Astrology, in this sense, is 11th house too. It’s not just your experiences in groups or with friends, your tribe, but also your hopes and goals for the future. Where you are taking your life.

        • Reply Alice B September 20, 2015 at 1:40 am

Hmm. Where I’m taking my life is venus ruled so I guess that makes some sense. I had a review thing at work and it was horrendous because they made a big deal about the one thing people said about me without fail was that I truly care about the wellbeing of each person I come into contact with. It made me feel spied on and as if my innate qualities were being surveilled. I really didn’t feel comfortable abut being praised for something I think is just a natural thing – caring about the people around you. I guess that’s an 11th house thing?

I have a question about which to formula to use, night or day. My birth time is 6:37 p.m. but my Sun falls in the 7th house at 13 degrees of Cancer. In the video it is suggested to use night formula if the Sun falls in the bottom half of the chart up to the 7th house cusp. I looked at both daytime is Taurus in the 5th house and nighttime is Aries in the 4th house. I am confused . . . help please 🙂

    • Reply Kimmy September 19, 2015 at 11:52 pm

Good question. A “night time” birth occurs between sunset and sunrise.

By this definition, yours is a daytime birth. The 7th house is above the horizon, so the sun there says it occurred before dark.

POF conjunct my Midheaven. MC is Aquarius, but POF is Cap, 9th house.
So, I guess being out in the world, pursuing education and knowledge with ambition and hard work brings me joy. This is maybe why I can’t imagine myself as a stay -at-home mom even though my Cancer Sun and north node makes me feel like that might be a good idea.

  • Reply socialgraffiti September 20, 2015 at 12:25 am

Fantastic. I was just wondering earlier about PoF and it’s effect on the chart yesterday, actually. Perfect timing.

I have a night-time birth, but I just use the “Part of Fortune” on the drop-down list on PoF lies at 18 degrees Aries in the 10th house, conjunct Vesta at 19 degrees Aries and Saturn at 15 degrees.

In my experience, Part of Fortune is usually interpreted as something as a “lack of”, when you’re young. But it’s a sort of lacking that is perceived internally, and so you continuously work on it. Self-made luck, in a sense.

Aries is associated with a very assertive, independent, pioneering energy, and I know for certain that when I was younger, I struggled (and still do struggle- just less so) a great deal with taking initiative. I was very passive, very yielding to other people’s demands- but then I became very aware of this, and I decided to become the opposite of this.

People often comment that they perceive me as ‘confident’ or ‘brave’, but I actually feel a lot of inner conflict and doubt. I just try to work through it. I’ve observed that the PoF is very much like a sextile. You’re unaware of a skill you have, and then you work on it– then suddenly- you get all of this success.

Same thing with the 10th house placement. I place a lot of importance of career. But I perceive myself as having a “lack” of professional accomplishments- (Saturn could also play a role in this, however), but putting energy into career seems to come easily to me.

I have PoF in the fifth house at 25 Libra, snuggled in between Saturn at 23 Lib and Pluto at 26 Lib. They all sextile Neptune in Sag, if that means anything..

From what I’ve read, PoF in the 5th means my satisfaction and success comes from my creativeness in things like literature, music and the arts, and also being careful who I’m friends with. Saturn gives me a serious side, and Pluto enhances my love of mystery… The sextile to Sag might enhance the adventurous side of things, I do like to travel and climb mountains I suppose

    • Reply cousinribby September 20, 2015 at 10:25 pm

I am a nighttime birth but I just worked out my daytime PoF and it totally rings true but some mysterious but interesting connections.

So nighttime PoF is in 5th Libra, under chart ruler, (sun is in 4th but also Libra) and I have a Libra stellium. Daytime/general PoF is in 7th Sag, where I have another stellium, and this house is also ruled by Libra.

Nighttime has two conjunctions ^ and daytime is in conjunction with Neptune and I think square Venus.

I do need to feel expansive and exploratory (Sag) although this is in conflict with my Taurus AC. Nevertheless I have bursts of travel and adventure then recover with hunkering down at home and writing and cooking..

I feel like I’m missing some keys to unlocking what these two highlighted houses means so I’m getting more and more addicted to this course! Nevertheless with 5th an 7th highlighted and an Venus/Neptune square I’m learning mostly about love, relationships and following my burning desire to create and communicate in this life for sure

Think of the 6th like this: it rules the WAYS and MEANS we accomplish our will. Work, employees, the health of the body, pets, gadgets and ritual magic. These are all means to “do our will’.

Work earns the income, employees do our jobs for us, a healthy body allows us to move forward in the world, cats keep vermin out of the grain bins, dogs warn and protect, gadgets, you know, make things happen, like bottle openers, and ritual magic fuels our intentions.

          All to accomplish the will.

          It’s such a powerful house.

loved your description and working out kimmy, thanks so much, i was so instantly overwhelmed by this and video really added another dimension of teaching!

my asc is aries 12.39, sun gem 29.16 and moon cap 15.46
so working all that out my night POF (i was born at night so for me this resonates with me stronger) is virgo 26.09
and my Sun POF is lib 28.69

i’m not sure if i’ve made a mistake with my day and night POF ending up so close but it seems accurate to me.

so if i’m going by my night POF, i am virgo, in the 6th house, conjunct my DC.

so if i am embracing the qualities of my sign –
i don’t actually know much about virgo! other than being analytical, a bit of a perfectionist, determined and stubborn..?

if i am engaging in activities of the house – 6th house. so admin/wellness/service to humanity? i have definitely spent this last year focusing on my mental health and have my diagnosis of bipolar.. i’m not sure what else this means.

honoring any planets? there are no planets nearby and its very much on its own! i’m not sure how to calculate aspects so im not sure what it squares or opposites. looking at the chart though i think POF might be square with my sun (and then there are two numbers within that cube which are -3 S. any clues on what that means?)

any hints or tips greatly appreciated!

      Hi Timidgem,

“i’m not sure if i’ve made a mistake with my day and night POF ending up so close but it seems accurate to me. ” –

Good point. A quick check is to remember the POF is always the same distance from the Asc as the sun is from the Moon. Eyeball that and you’ll know if you are on point.

I buzzed your calculations and they are correct. Well done. You must have a “full moon” phase in your birth chart or within 30 degrees either side. Yes?

Don’t worry about the aspects yet, just immerse yourself in ideas and symbolism of the 6th house and the natural ruler Virgo. (check what I wrote above re “ways and means of accomplishing the will”. I would thing that anything you create ritual around would be very powerful.

I LOVE MONEY, i love being payed and enjoy spending money freely tremendously
i love being payed, i love being payed, i can’t emphasize it more.
BUT i love being payed for doing what i have chosen to do, and so in the last 4-5 years i am 100% free in what i do and that is bringing me so much joy
either people like what i do the way i do it and then they pay for it, or they don’t and then they’re not my client

i am seriously lucky to have had the opportunity to make my sag SN work for me (international everything, curiosity, languages, adventures, lots and lots of different experiences), and now it’s all coming together as a sort of a profitable career.

i would never want to live on scholarship or some other thing like that. i thrive only when living people i can see give me real money for my hours.

Hello and thank you – i’ve always wondered about the Part of Fortune.

I think I have some kind of fundamental problem here – my POF is in the same house and sign as my South Node.
So if I’m meant to kind of shun my South Node and embrace my POF does one cancel the other out? Or is it more like, learning to love and use for my own empowerment wisely, the things/feelings/people that are not the best for me?
If it helps, my POF is in my Second House, and is Leo so fire and fixed.
It is also sextile my AC (Gemini).

    Thanks so much

    • Reply Kimmy September 20, 2015 at 3:10 pm

I wouldn’t shun the South Node. It’s like a suitcase full of things you have acquired for your journey. The North Node is the empty suitcase that you fill along the way. Your job is to balance, and utilize both.

Is the POF and SN within 10 degrees of each other?

In any case, I’m guessing developing your creative talents brings you joy. With the SN there, you do it in collaboration with others, for the collective, not just for yourself.

      Play around with that.

      • Reply Faith September 21, 2015 at 12:52 am

Oh I see – so I’m already equipped with the qualities etc of the SN and I should pursue the NN to balance it out – that makes sense and I like thinking of it in that more positive way.

POF is at 14 and SN is at 27 so 13 degrees.

You’re spot on with creativity and joy, and also about collaborating – a huge part of my work is community/collective art, and writing with a social conscience 🙂

    POF- Gemini 8th house:

    -Sextile MC Leo
    -Sextile Chiron 6H Taurus
-Trine Mars 12H Scorpio (Which is my AC.)
-Square Mercury 11H Libra (Which is my Sun sign.)

I’m not sure what it all means but, the fact that it is square Mercury, it’s ruling planet, in my Sun sign has me VERY curious about how I can work with these energies. Help?

    • Reply Kimmy September 20, 2015 at 3:11 pm

Start with the placement first before you think about aspects. What does POF in Gemini want? In the 8th? This is like the example chart only reversed!

      • Reply LunaGreen September 20, 2015 at 5:07 pm

Always getting ahead of myself. 🙂 Probably because-

Gemini- Explore diverse data; Check out options; Dialogue with the world.
8th house- (keeping it positive) Inner Transformation, Growth, Regeneration

So, uncovering & healing. Seeking information & control over innate things/habits that I might default to that could harm me or others. Endless curiosity regarding what’s beyond the veil. Enjoying a good mystery & even more so, the solving of it.

It’s interesting that most of my partners have been Gemini’s including my husband. “Shared finances” fits here aptly.

I read that usually POF is at odds with the AC but, my AC is the ruler of my POF house placement. And it’s BiQ- “poinst to talent, the desire to create order and to categorize, a fascination with patterns and structures, perfectionist tendencies, and the desire to build or make things.”

        Right? ¯_(?)_/¯

POF 10th house 22 degrees Pisces. I’m having a little trouble figuring out how best to nurture Pisces in this house of career/public image. One article I read about the 10th house said to add the word “professional” to the sign in the 10th house. How would I become a professional Pisces? Would this be a good way to access POF loveliness?

I tried to figure out my night POF and got very confused. ASC Cancer 4 deg 38, Sun Cap 9 deg 3, moon Virgo 27 deg 11. Sooo 94.38 + 177.11= 271.49 – 297.03= –25.54. Where would I add the 360?

Great work having a go at the maths. You were not daunted! And, you are nearly there.

Add the entire zodiac (360) to 271.49 so you can subtract the sun. Wait – sun is 279.3, not 297 . . . so Day time POF is 16 Libra 57 and night time is 22 Pisces 46. Does that look right? Both should be the same distance from the Ace that the moon is from the sun.

Pisces POF in 10? The professional muse, poet, healer, artist, musician?Someone who combines mysticism with pragmatism.

There are thousands of ways to make an “And/And” statement out of “Pisces” and “career/mission/profession”.

Thanks for all the help, Kim!

I’m a massage therapist who is contemplating retiring at the end of 2016 after 13 years of operating my own small practice. I enjoy my work mostly; it is by far the most satisfying thing I’ve ever done but my body is starting to really break down (hands and back). Right now I’m in the process of figuring out what’s next. I really like the healing aspect of what I do and would like to carry that on with whatever’s next. I’m taking this class and one on Traditional Mexican healing right now and plan on taking more classes like this soon. I’m hoping that my direction will become clearer as time goes on.

I’m still processing what this all means. Thanks for for the guidance.!

Again I am late to the astro hack party- but here I am!
I have Aries in my 6th House and it feels like a real chore almost worse than my natal Saturn in Taurus/7th House.
I need to tap into my leadership skills and not shun them. I am often annoyed by aggressive overly forceful types so I think I come off as passive.
Maybe I am NOT tapping into it’s fortuitous vibes!

  • Reply Flashfire September 20, 2015 at 5:07 pm

I have to say that I LOVE that my POF is in the fifth house, though not entirely sure how to feel about the fact it is practically bang on my Pluto and closely conjunct Uranus in Virgo (as mentioned in previous hack, I am a member of the Uranus Pluto conjunct in Virgo mini generation.)

This placement reads spot on for me…. my greatest joy comes thru my creative experiences. I work as a capital C Creative so I guess you could say I make my “fortune” thru this house, although I would have to attach a big “ahem” and wink to the word “fortune” if we are looking at fortune in strictly monetary terms 😀 But in terms of pleasure and feeling of abundance, oh yeah. Fifth House POF all the way.

Interestingly, the New Moon just past was smack on my POF-Pluto at 20 degrees Virgo (and thus nearly on my Uranus). I generally try to mark new moons by setting my intentions, but I’m usually pretty lax about it, figuring that if I am somewhere in 24 hour range, I’m all good. But this time, given Mystic’s advice, I set my alarm to wake me up in the middle of the night and did a formal ritual and meditation, beginning precisely at the new moon. I wasn’t consciously aware of anything related to POF then, but the intentions I set with that new moon are definitely fifth house related. And it felt amazing…. a real internal reset! I am trying to use Virgo focus in reshaping my fifth house aspirations, but hmmm…. maybe I should also be thinking in more about that Uranus Pluto conjunction and how I can maximize POF there?! Food for thought fer sure!

And lastly, Kimmy with a Y, thanks so much for all the inspiration you provide, not only here with these hacks, but on your own site with your Save the Day tips. I read them all the other day and they truly ignited some great ideas. I am astonished at your generosity and the ease with which you provide such uplifting and useful encouragement. I’m pretty sure you;re some kind of cosmic super-hero. Good vibes indeed!

I’ve popped up some additional key words to use as springboards into POF by sign and house. This is the tip of the iceberg, there to get you starts.

Keep it simple. Build from the ground up. Explore.

  • Reply limakilo September 20, 2015 at 7:58 pm

my POF is in Taurus in the 7th. A bit like my Jupiter in the 7th I find this not an easy one to interpret….formal partnerships in my life have been few (romantic ones, zero) – but I am blessed with more than a couple of really nourishing and important friendships. And I’ve done pretty well with bosses, too, not as mentors necessarily but as kind friends. Other than that…bit of a mystery for me. POF aspects: trine Sun (just about to the minute), oppose Uranus. Guess I’ll think on the Taurus theme – it’s Aries on the cusp which has confused matters for me so I’m looking forward to future hacks on that (lots intercepted and at 29 degrees)!

As an astro-beginner your keywords are really helpful… I have POF in Pisces in the 11th – maybe group work that focuses on collective spiritual or humanitarian evolution and connections? I am studying art therapy so this is just a guess!

POF in 4th house Scorpio conj my Neptune/Moon conjunction and square my Leo sun/asc……I think my home is my haven, also a tad haunted lol. I have lots of spiritual interests. But in another way the POF might help in home and water issues lol. Over the years we’ve had a flood from plumbing, pool issues, pond leaking/redo but after each episode we end up with newer, much improved home. I feel safe and I love to listen to my house (I never have t.v. or music playing…just the sounds of cooking, fireplace crackling inside/ windy days and yard work outside soothe me 🙂

I have nothing else in Leo and am delighted!

However, I can’t tell if it is the 11th or 12th house, it appears to be on the line. . .

Also, It trines my Venus in Aries in the 8th and sextils my Mercury in Gemini in the 10th. But I’m not sure what to make of this!

    • Reply Kimmy September 21, 2015 at 3:11 pm

If you create your chart at, you can look at the bottom left, under the list of planets and see a box of 6 house cusps. It will have 11 and 12 listed there.

Can you see where I mean?

Also, click on the upper left option “Additional Tables”. Open that PDF and you will see all house cusps listed in the far right hand box, at the top.

Let me know if that makes sense.

Bit late to the party here. Rough maths – Sun in Sag, Moon in Cap, Pisces Rising = POF Taurus, 3rd house. (About 50 degrees). Taurus I did not expect, but 3rd house sounds on the nose as I reap a lot of pleasure, reward and attention from my writing and teaching endeavours and abilities. Not sure how POF in Taurus manifests itself for me, perhaps that I’m a homebody?

Although my POF doesn’t oppose anything… It sqaures perfectly with my Mercury in Sag! Any clues what this could indicate?

    • Reply Kimmy September 21, 2015 at 3:03 pm

      Hi GreenEyes,

Can we please check the maths? There are only 30 degrees of a sign, so if you got 50 Taurus, it might be 20 Gemini.

Just give me the degree and minutes of your Asc, Sun and moon and I’ll quickly check, or if you are a daytime birth, go to and tick Part of Fortune in the “Extended chart selection” and have a look.

POF in Fifth house in Cancer. Also quite happy with this placement, i have always felt a strong creative bent or longing! just struggled with the best channel or what to do (have 1000 ideas and struggle to decide the best one to focus on), thought perhaps childrens books or performing. POF in cancer is spot on re. importance of nurturing/comfort, didn’t feel this growing up etc. read somewhere 5th house can represent inner gypsy spirit which is definitely me…i feel happiest when i’m free, adventuring

POF squares mercury in Libra in 8th house…maybe this means my creativity is challenged by inability to express myself (bogged down by 8th house demons?)

part of spirit in capricorn in 11th…from initial research this looks at developing self esteem to succeed in work/social sitches.

  • Reply Devi September 22, 2015 at 1:44 pm

Ok, let me try this, even if late to the game:

I’m a night birth, and my POF is at 7’09” Cancer, in my 9th house, conjunct my MC at 8’51” Cancer.
(It’s squaring my ascendant, opposite the Jupiter/Neptune/IC conjunction, but leaving that aside for now because I don’t know what to do with it…)

If the MC is about career, the 9th house is new horizons, higher education, travel, beliefs, and Cancer is about feeling needed, nurturing, and protecting, while also as a cardinal house, taking charge and being a bit bossy but in a compassionate way, it all kind of fits. My career is as a university professor in the humanities, and teaching and guiding my students to expand their horizons and think into other times and other cultures. I definitely do get tremendous fulfillment through teaching, through feeling like I’ve helped my students to see and experience the past and present in ways they hadn’t before they entered my classroom. My NN is also in the 9th, but in Gemini, so perhaps less nurturing and more communicative and investigative, but certainly I can see how the teaching aspect of my career fits with Cancer, the MC, and the Part of Fortune.

Incidentally, the moon, the ruler of Cancer, is in Taurus in the 8th house, and I love using readings surrounding sex, death, and financial conflicts to help my students understand the past. 🙂

When I first saw the chart above, I thought: Dr. Ruth. POF in Scorpio in 3rd, loves to talk/makes a living talking about things others find risque or hard to approach with bluntness and clarity (Scorpio), while keeping it light-hearted, with a spirit of curiousity and adventure (Sag Moon), and with the intent of improving relations for all mankind (Aqua Sun).

Myself, my POF is in 6th house Capricorn. When I discovered this a few years ago, I was like….oh hell yes. I’m a yoga teacher and I NEED to be helping/of service and being productive is like oxygen to me. Too much chill time makes Lionfish’s scales dull.

I am a nightime birth w POF in Aries in the 7th house. Looking at Venus and relationships here. I am Ruled by Venus (Libra Rising) and my natal Venus in a Stellium conjunct Mars,Sun in my 3rd house and in Saggo. Aries as the natural 1st house of self ( ruled by Mars) my DC is 5º Aries. ALL Clues to a more potent mystery stew I have going. I can only see the ingredients bubbling around w the fire and air…? I usually initiate relationships in my cute lil armor with my clever lil words , Venus transits seem to be fortuitous pretty much all around the chart. I do love taking care of my partner and close relationships. Any thoughts?

I’m really enjoying this course and understanding all of the nuances of my chart and how the different placements interact 🙂

I was born in the early morning hours so my POF is Capricorn in the 5th house. I see the Capricorn aspect coming through various aspects of my life – especially my work; however, what is represented by the fifth house is something I have always denied and there has been a distinct lack of balance in my life. This is partly due to fears of failure/being judged/the unknown, etc. I have largely focussed my energies on work (which is a different form of creativity/expression, I guess, and I a lot of my self-identification has come through this). Over the last 6 months or so, I have been drawn more towards self-expression and creativity, and this has been increasing over the last month, so I am starting to give reign to it and am noticing I have a growing intolerance for structures, tradition, and doing what others expect. I am also seeking something that has more meaning/makes more of a contribution within the community, rather than the bottom line.

From the combined energies, I have always been aware of a degree of “luck” in terms of being able to manifest what I want. Now, I will focus more on what “makes my heart dance” rather than what I “should” be doing but doesn’t ultimately make me happy.
